This month we are taking part in the Big Give’s Arts for Impact Campaign in support of our work in and with Creative Communities.
In Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, economic and social disadvantage continue to hold back communities from reaching their potential, often having a detrimental effect on community mental health. While the creative industries remain a source of economic growth across the region, accessibility remains a significant barrier for many residents who wish to participate.
That’s where we come in …for 40 years, Creative Kernow has contributed towards positive social and economic change on both a regional and national scale. Our programmes and projects enable engagement in free or accessibly priced arts activities, reaching people from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Participation in the arts is scientifically proven to improve health, confidence and community cohesion. Our approach – co-creating culture with communities – builds strong foundations for positive change including vital employment skills and collaborative networks.
Over the next twelve months we will:
support rural village halls to programme professional performances and films for up to 9000 local people;
enable 850 children and young people to co-create their own creative projects with local artists;
support 60 local festivals with grants and training opportunities;
support 80 community arts projects with grants reaching thousands of people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Now here’s the exciting part … you can help to continue these activities into this summer and beyond! From 12 noon 19th March to 12 noon 26th March, any donations made through the Big Give will be doubled (yes DOUBLED!).
